Logos Christian Academy Update
“A Classical and Christ-Centered Education”
December 14, 2018
“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!’’
Luke 2:13,14
Thoughts from the Headmaster
As we enter the countdown until Christmas, our prayer is that you will be reminded of the good news that the Christmas story shares with each one of us.
The word “gospel” means “good news” or “good tidings.” The angel that came to shepherds said, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people.” (Luke 2:10). He came to announce the gospel, the good news that Jesus had come into the world.
The good news doesn’t end with the Christmas story. Jesus taught us how to know God and how to serve Him, He showed us how to love each other, and then He gave his own life as a sacrifice for our sins so we could live with Him someday in heaven. But the good news doesn’t end with Easter, either. Jesus is living in heaven right now, watching over us. The Holy Spirit lives within us to help us know God better and to experience His love. God has a plan for your life, and he has a plan for the whole world. In the end, everything will work out according to his plan, and He – and we – will be victorious. That’s good news!
So this Christmas when you think about Peace on Earth, thank God for sending His Son to be our Peace – now and forever. “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV) (Excerpted from Standing Firm: Living Victoriously in a Cursed World by Janet Ruth.)
The Logos staff, board, and I wish you and your family a joyous Christmas celebration and memorable time with your family.
Merry Christmas Blessings,
Pam Duarte
Please note that our last day of school before the Christmas break will be early dismissal at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 19th.
School Updates
Christmas Caroling – Tuesday 11:30-1:30
Permission slips for Christmas caroling are due back today (Friday). If you have not yet returned your child’s form, please make sure it is in the office no later than Monday. We must have these for students to be able to participate. Our whole school will travel by tractor trailers (thanks to the Bunyard and Williams families) to Christmas carol in our community. One group will visit The Homestead, the Sheriff Department, and the Fire Department. The other group will visit seniors at the Pennington Life Center, City Hall, and the Police Department.
Please note that students will eat lunch from 11:00-11:20 and then load up to leave the parking lot by 11:30. If you plan to join us, you will need to be here no later than 11:30. Students should dress warmly over their uniforms (coats, mittens, warm hats) and may bring blankets. Our special time will conclude with hot chocolate and cookies back at school – thanks to UPLIFT!
It’s not too late to contribute “dollars for donuts” so we can bring donuts to our emergency responders. Students can bring in a $1 up through Monday to help out. Thank you!
Angel Breakfast – Wednesday 8:15-9:30 – Wear Red and Green!
Logos will host their annual Angel Breakfast on Wednesday morning in the chapel. Students will be served a delicious warm breakfast, sing Christmas carols, and listen to the Christmas story read by Mr. Bill Slentz. Thank you to those who have volunteered to bring items or help serve that morning. Mrs. Jung is the contact person if you have any questions. They will then return to their classrooms to finish out the morning in a celebratory fashion, with dismissal for the Christmas break at 11:30 am. This is a no uniform day – students are encouraged to be festive in their red and green clothing!
Thank You for Your Generosity!
It has been a joy to see so many wonderfully wrapped Christmas gifts fill the space around our office Christmas tree! We will be delivering 13 specially selected gifts to seniors at The Homestead for Christmas, as well as sending out gifts for 6 children (2 gifts each) through Angel Tree Ministries. Your generous spirit is greatly appreciated!
Help Needed – Get Your Volunteer Hours In!
· We have a number of people who faithfully serve as Yard Duty throughout the year. However, as we approach the second half of the year, we are in desperate need of support to replace those who can no longer assist. If you can help one or more times a week for one of the following time slots, please let the school office know as soon as possible so we have things in place for January:
o Tuesdays and/or Thursdays 9:40-10:10
o Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday 11:20-12:00
o Thursday/Friday 2:50-3:15
· After School Enrichment Class leaders for 3rd quarter… Are you able to share a skill with our students after school once a week for 4-6 weeks? We have ideas, but would love to hear yours too! It can be anything like music, science exploration, woodworking, cooking, or let your imagination run wild! Interested? Contact pduarte@logosfallon.org
Latin Tutoring
Latin Tutoring is in full swing for our students who need a little extra support with their Latin studies. Special thanks to Ms. Taylor for making this possible. They meet on Wednesdays as soon as school is over until 3:45 pm. If your child is attending on an as needed basis, it is helpful if you can e-mail Ms. Taylor on the days they plan to attend – ktaylor@logosfallon.org
Yearbook Club
Our Middle School students, under the guidance of Mrs. Gilman and Mrs. Cheek, are hard at work getting our 2018-19 yearbook ready for publication. We are all looking forward to seeing the end product! They will be canvassing after the first of the year to seek out businesses that would like to purchase advertising space. If you have photos of any school events, we would greatly appreciate you sending them to hez13dize@yahoo.com
Art Enrichment Class
Special thanks to Mrs. Shelley Schafer for teaching, hosting, and providing so many wonderful winter crafts for the students over the past 6 weeks! We had an incredible turn out for this After School Enrichment class and are grateful for the generosity and dedication of Mrs. Schafer to make it possible.
